Focused ultrasound, a non-surgical medical procedure endorsed by Hong Kong magnate Li Ka-shing, is gaining recognition as a potentially profitable substitute for conventional treatments for various ailments, including cancer, says a specialist.
"The increase in the number of therapies, research trials, and study locations, coupled with the reality that equipment producers are receiving financial backing from strategic investors and large financial entities, are signals that focused ultrasound is on the rise," stated the past joint head of neurosurgery at the University of Virginia.
Last month, a charity run by a billionaire from Hong Kong declared that it would contribute two medical machines to the city's hospitals. It also pledged to fund the treatment of 20 patients and the training of six doctors and radiologists through HistoSonics.
