Lewis Hamilton Optimistic About Mercedes’ Pace Amidst Challenging Weather at Canadian Grand Prix
"Lewis Hamilton uplifted by Mercedes' performance in Canada
Hamilton and Mercedes experienced a positive day in Canada."
Lewis Hamilton expressed satisfaction with the performance of his Mercedes W15 during the Friday practice session ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, mentioning "the car felt robust".
Wet conditions disrupted both training rounds at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, preventing all teams from gaining significant experience on dry tires.
Most of the FP2 session laps were completed on a wet circuit, with Fernando Alonso leading the way, followed by George Russell.
In the morning session, Hamilton secured the fourth position, then moved to seventh in the FP2 due to traffic during a lap that could have improved his ranking.
Over the years, Hamilton has achieved significant triumphs in Canada, securing seven wins.
Despite challenging track conditions on Friday, Hamilton felt "assured" in his vehicle's performance.
"Hamilton mentioned that the car was performing well the entire time, and he didn't have the chance to complete what could have been his quickest lap."
"This circuit ranks among the top ones we visit, making my experience on the track truly enjoyable. Lately, we've found Saturdays to be somewhat tougher, yet I remain positive on the track, feeling that the car is responsive to my commands."
"In the end, the true measure of our position won't be clear until after qualifying, but overall, it was a very positive day."
Rainy conditions are anticipated to continue for the rest of the weekend.
This may come as good news for Hamilton, considering he managed to qualify in the first row during the China sprint race amid varying weather conditions, eventually securing a second-place finish in the main race.
"I felt fantastic out there, eager to keep going regardless of the conditions," he said.
"I was satisfied that we managed to fully utilize our time on the circuit because that's essential in a track of this nature. It's fundamentally about gradually increasing your speed."
"It also involved comprehending the circumstances as well as the freshly installed surface."
