Lando Norris Places Ferrari Ahead of McLaren After Wet Canadian GP Practice Sessions
Lando Norris ranks Ferrari slightly in front of McLaren following practice sessions for the upcoming Formula 1 race in Canada.
Lando Norris feels that Ferrari has a slight lead over McLaren following the Friday Formula 1 practice sessions for the Canadian Grand Prix.
Wet conditions interfered with both practice rounds at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, preventing all teams from completing significant laps on a dry track.
Norris succeeded in leading the morning session, during which most laps were completed on intermediate tires.
In the subsequent session, Norris found himself at the end of the pack, trailing Fernando Alonso by five seconds.
In the midst of fluctuating circumstances, Norris seems to have an understanding of the hierarchy, placing Ferrari in the lead.
"Insufficient, yet we gained considerable knowledge… Truly, not enough when conditions were dry, to speak frankly," Norris remarked.
"I believe we completed the least number of laps compared to others when conditions were dry… It's not the most ideal situation, but when it was wet, we managed to do quite a bit, putting us in a fairly decent position."
Currently, it appears we're slightly behind [in speed]. The Ferraris definitely seem to have a bit of an advantage.
"Currently, it's difficult to determine our exact position as the conditions are constantly evolving. The optimal time for a lap, whether it's initially when the track is in prime condition or towards the end when conditions might be favorable again, is unpredictable. Honestly, I'm at a loss."
Team leader Andrea Stella anticipates a "busy weekend" due to the expected continuation of rainy weather.
"He also mentioned that the day's events were disrupted by rainy weather," he noted. "This has resulted in limited understanding regarding tire performance, vehicle configuration, or our standing in terms of competitiveness.
"With that in mind, it's possible we've already gathered the most crucial data, given that the current conditions might persist throughout the entire weekend.
"The effort we put into running paid off, and thankfully, we managed to give something back to all the supporters who showed up today to watch us."
"It's essential that we maintain our concentration, apply the lessons learned from today, and prepare ourselves for a busy weekend ahead."
