Kazakhstan MotoGP Debut Cancelled, Misano Secures Second 2024 Race Following Calendar Reshuffle
Announcement: The MotoGP event in Kazakhstan has been removed from the 2024 schedule, with Misano stepping in to hold an additional race.
Initially delayed from June to September, the first-ever MotoGP event in Kazakhstan has been officially called off and substituted with an additional race at Misano.
Consequently, Sokol joins Argentina and India as the third event to be removed from the scheduled 2024 MotoGP calendar. Originally, Kazakhstan was slated to take India's spot in the lineup, with the race set for September 20-22.
A statement from FIM, IRTA, and Dorna Sports mentioned that the event scheduled for 2024 cannot take place due to the operational and logistical challenges caused by the recent floods in the area.
However, the global championship will maintain its 20-race schedule, with Misano hosting an additional MotoGP race on the date originally slated for Kazakhstan.
The extra race at Misano will be named the Emilia Romagna MotoGP, a name that was previously used for subsequent races at the track during the Covid period.
The adjustment in the schedule confirms that the San Marino MotoGP, which is the 13th round, will proceed as scheduled at Misano from September 6th to 8th. This will be accompanied by an official test after the race on September 9th, followed by a break during the subsequent weekend. Subsequently, the newly introduced Emilia Romagna race, marking the 14th round, will occur from September 20th to 22nd
The inaugural race of the overseas circuits commences in Mandalika, Indonesia, a mere five days afterward.
The Balaton Park Circuit in Hungary was unexpectedly named as a 'Reserve Event' for the MotoGP 2024 season, yet it seems it wasn't considered as a substitute for any rounds that were called off.
