Jorge Martin Leverages Test Insights for a Strong Start at Emilia Romagna GP Despite Practice Crash
Jorge Martin gained momentum from trial results despite an accident
Jorge Martin shares his Friday successes
MotoGP frontrunner Jorge Martin credits his Pramac team with "intelligent strategizing" during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix practice sessions, utilizing test data effectively to enhance his performance.
The Spanish rider entered the second race in Misano with only a seven-point lead over Francesco Bagnaia, following a risky tactic in the flag-to-flag San Marino Grand Prix that did not pay off.
Martin concluded Friday's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in second place, trailing Bagnaia, even after experiencing a minor fall during the final moments of Practice. He was among the eight riders involved in a series of crashes during the second practice session.
Additionally, besides demonstrating an improved pace over a single lap compared to the San Marino Grand Prix weekend, Martin also enhanced his performance over longer runs. He attributes this progress to the insights gained from the data collected during the Misano test the previous Monday.
"Actually, I've managed to outdo my previous best, which I believe is quite a positive aspect," Martin remarked.
"I'm optimistic about our speed and how we're handling things. We made smart moves today. I believe we're on the right track, and let's hope we can enhance our qualifying performance tomorrow."
"Definitely, it was crucial to avoid an accident in the morning since the conditions made it easy for one to occur."
"In the afternoon, we effectively utilized the data obtained from the test to enhance the bike and its configuration."
"My primary objective was to enhance performance with the soft tires, and we managed to make progress with the medium ones as well. Hence, it turned out to be a successful day."
After battling to secure the fourth spot on the grid at the San Marino GP, enhancing his performance in qualifying was Martin's "primary objective," a goal he believes he has effectively achieved.
Despite beginning in the fourth position in the previous race, Martin managed to surge ahead into the lead right at the first turn during the sprint, leading every lap thereafter to secure the victory.
"He emphasized that his primary goal was to enhance his qualifying performance."
"We appear to have enhanced our performance here in Misano. Given the grip level, I found it challenging to fully tap into my maximum potential. However, it looks like we've now narrowed the distance to my 100%."
