Jorge Martin Gains Confidence from Trial Runs Despite Tumble
Jorge Martin Shares Positive Outcomes from Friday's Session
MotoGP frontrunner Jorge Martin credits his Pramac squad for their "really clever" approach during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix practice, highlighting how they effectively utilized test data to enhance his performance.
The Spanish rider entered the second race at Misano with only a seven-point lead over Francesco Bagnaia, following a risky strategy at the flag-to-flag San Marino GP that did not pay off.
Martin wrapped up Friday's session at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in second place, trailing behind Bagnaia, even after experiencing a minor crash towards the close of Practice. He was among the eight riders involved in a series of falls during the tumultuous second practice session.
In addition to demonstrating improved speed over a single lap compared to the San Marino Grand Prix weekend, Martin also enhanced his performance over longer distances, attributing the progress to insights gained from the Misano test conducted the previous Monday.
"Actually, I surpassed my previous record here, so I believe that's already a positive aspect," Martin commented.
"I'm quite optimistic about our speed and how I'm handling the bike. I believe we made smart moves today. It seems we're on the right track, and let's hope we can enhance our qualifying performance tomorrow."
"Definitely, it was crucial to avoid any accidents in the morning as the conditions made it easy for mishaps to happen."
"In the afternoon, we effectively utilized the data obtained from the test to enhance the motorcycle's performance and configuration."
"My primary objective was to enhance performance with the soft, and we managed to achieve progress with the medium as well. Therefore, it was a successful day overall."
After battling to secure fourth place on the grid at the San Marino GP, Martin identified enhancing his qualifying performance as his primary goal, a feat he believes he has now achieved.
Beginning from the fourth position in the previous race, Martin surged ahead to the front at the initial turn during the sprint and maintained the lead throughout every lap, securing the victory.
"He emphasized that his primary goal was to enhance his qualifying performance."
"It appears that our performance has enhanced here in Misano. Given the current grip level, I found it challenging to fully utilize my maximum capability. Thus, it looks like we've managed to narrow the gap to my absolute best."
