Jorge Martin Battles Bike Issues in Complex Japanese GP Practice Sessions
Jorge Martin faced difficulties managing his motorcycle during the MotoGP practice session in Japan
"The session this afternoon turned out to be trickier than anticipated…"
MotoGP frontrunner Jorge Martin described Friday's practice session at the Japanese Grand Prix as "challenging," attributing the difficulty to "encountering several problems with the bike's performance."
The Pramac team's rider made a significant appearance on the leaderboards during both of Friday's sessions at Motegi, securing a second-place finish in the wet FP1 and achieving third place overall by the conclusion of the second practice.
Martin mentioned he faced significant challenges with the front-end feel of the GP24 Ducati, and it appeared that tyre degradation during extended runs was also a concern.
"He mentioned, 'It turned out to be an odd day, all thanks to the weather prediction.'"
"The morning was challenging due to the slippery conditions and the rainfall."
This afternoon turned out to be more complex than initially anticipated.
"I began on a good note, but later encountered several problems while attempting to manage the bike."
"I found it challenging to get a good sense of the front, and the back was also significantly lowering."
"Therefore, we must put in a lot of effort, perhaps not tomorrow since it looks like it's going to rain. However, by Sunday, we should aim to make significant progress."
Martin mentioned that he experimented with an alternative configuration on Friday, aiming to enhance the braking efficiency for the stop-and-go design at Motegi.
However, the adjustments did not produce the improvements he had anticipated, and he mentioned that he will probably revert to his usual settings for the remainder of the weekend.
"He mentioned, 'It seems we haven't discovered what I was in search of.'"
"We were focusing on improving our braking performance as it plays a significant role in this context."
"However, I was struggling with taking corners and navigating the mid-point of the turn."
"I believe we'll return to a conventional approach, a framework that typically functions well, and from there, we'll attempt to proceed differently."
Pramac team member Franco Morbidelli will have to go through Q1 during Saturday morning's qualifying session, following a finish as the 13th fastest on Friday.
