Sir Keir Starmer has stood by Labour's history of supporting gender equality, responding to accusations from JK Rowling that the party has forsaken women.
The candidate from Downing Street declared his pride in his party's record on the issue, following a 2,000-word critique by the author of Harry Potter in The Times, which challenged his opinions.
Ms. Rowling has publicly expressed her opinion that spaces designated for biological women should remain exclusive and not be accessible to transgender women, who were assigned male at birth.
