Jet Lag Gamble: Bagnaia and Marquez Opt for Home Comforts Amidst MotoGP’s Grueling Schedule
Surprise surrounds the choice made by Pecco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez, which is being described as both a "risk" and a "burden". "This decision puts a significant physical burden on them – and it's something that could have been avoided," sources say.
Paddock insiders were taken aback by a decision that both Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez support.
After the Japanese MotoGP concludes, the two riders will return home right away. They will then journey from Europe to Australia for the subsequent MotoGP event.
The event scheduled for Phillip Island in Australia is set to take place in two weeks, from October 18th to
Pecco Bagnaia claimed victory at the Japanese Grand Prix, narrowing the gap to just 10 points behind Jorge Martin in the MotoGP standings.
After his victory in Motegi, Bagnaia told TNT Sports that he was heading home to relax and enjoy some downtime.
"I am unable to return to my hometown because I need to remain in Pesaro."
"I plan to relax on the couch this Sunday, enjoying Superbikes and Formula 1 races. It'll be great!"
Nevertheless, his choice regarding logistics has led to some surprise.
TNT Sports' Neil Hodgson expressed his astonishment, describing the situation as incredibly significant.
"We'll head back home. Clearly, you're experiencing jet lag. Then, in less than a week, you'll be traveling to Australia, which means you'll be dealing with significant jet lag again."
"I can't believe he's heading back."
"He is accompanied by his wife and has his friends and companions nearby."
"I assumed he would head directly to Australia."
Michael Laverty commented, "You return to familiar surroundings to enjoy the food of your choice."
"If you prefer, you can remain on the Australian time schedule, though it is challenging since you tend to be active at night."
If you enjoy routines and prefer the familiarity of home, then making the trip back might be worthwhile.
"You expose yourself to viruses and germs while on the plane. Once you return home, you need to adjust to the local time zone again."
"It's an enormous physical burden, one that he could sidestep if his wife were present. He has the option to travel to Australia and relax on the beach."
Bagnaia is not the only one choosing to return to Europe, even though he is aware that he will have to take another lengthy flight the following week.
Marquez announced that he is returning to Spain.
"For a week, I enjoy unwinding at home to recuperate. I focus on self-care and physical well-being, then get ready for the upcoming trio of races."
The MotoGP season has entered its flyaway phase, requiring most of the riders who are based in Europe to manage the challenges of global travel.
Following consecutive events in Indonesia and Japan, there will be a week's pause prior to a series of three races in Australia, Thailand, and Malaysia.
The final event of the season takes place in
