Jack Miller Battles ‘Strange Moments’ and Rear Tyre Woes During Mandalika MotoGP Practice
Jack Miller comments on frustrating incidents during Mandalika practice
“We attempted to maintain higher cornering speed but ended up losing traction on the tire edges”
During Friday's practice session for the Indonesian MotoGP, Jack Miller experienced some unusual moments on his KTM.
Miller placed 17th in the morning session and improved to 16th in the afternoon session.
However, a specific section of the track caused him to lose precious seconds.
“It was a productive day,” Miller commented. “We had strong speed in the afternoon, completed an extended run, and felt confident. The bike performed well."
"When it was crucial to improve my lap time towards the end, I experienced a few unusual incidents…"
Following the back straight at Turns 10 and 11, I was managing to maintain corner speed. However, on both occasions, as I entered and reached the middle of the apex, the rear wheels locked unexpectedly.
"Occasionally, it behaves in peculiar ways."
"We attempted to take the corners faster, but we ended up losing traction at the tire's edge."
Overall, the bicycle performs effectively when traction is limited.
"If we can sort out Sector 2 tomorrow and increase our speed in that section…
"Today marked a significant improvement for us; we're continually progressing."
Miller was questioned about whether engine braking contributed to his difficulties in managing the rear of his KTM.
"I'm not certain if it was a mistake. I'm not sure about that," he stated.
“We’re working on resolving the issue right now; the team is attempting to figure out what caused the problem."
"But it's really frustrating, especially after you've installed a new tire and nailed the first part of the lap."
"The issue is that when you experience a moment like that, particularly in that series of turns, you end up encountering the debris between Turn 11 and Turn 12."
"When the bike slows down, you go off-track at the next turn, and rather than losing eight-tenths of a second, you only lose three-tenths."
On Friday at Mandalika, Pedro Acosta emerged as the quickest rider on a KTM, securing the eighth-fastest time.
On Friday afternoon, Brad Binder, who is Miller's teammate at the factory, finished in 14th place.
