Discussion with Ursula von der Leyen and the ballot on her selection
At 9:00 AM, Ursula von der Leyen is set to unveil her key political goals and share her vision and strategies as the President of the Commission. This will be followed by a discussion with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) until approximately 11:00 AM.
The election, which will be conducted via confidential paper ballots, is set for 1:00 PM.
For von der Leyen to secure the election, she must win the support of an absolute majority in Parliament, which means more than half of the members need to vote in her favor.
According to Article 14 of the Treaty of the European Union, the European Parliament is responsible for choosing the President of the Commission. If Ursula von der Leyen fails to secure the necessary majority, the President of Parliament will ask the European Council to propose a new candidate within a month, following the same process for election.
Since 2019, Ursula von der Leyen has held the position of Commission President, and she was the top candidate for the European People's Party (EPP) in the European elections that took place from June 6 to June 9
