**”Hamilton’s Qualifying Struggles ‘Scare’ Him: Insights from Singapore GP”**
Lewis Hamilton admitted to feeling frightened due to difficulties during the qualifying session.
"He didn't fully grasp the situation, which I think unnerved him somewhat."
It has been reported that Lewis Hamilton felt frightened by his struggles during the qualifying session.
Throughout most of this season, Hamilton has struggled to keep up with his Mercedes teammate George Russell during the Saturday sessions.
In Singapore, Hamilton managed to secure a better qualifying position than Russell for only the fifth time this season, earning a spot in third on the starting grid.
Tom Clarkson mentioned on the F1 Nation podcast that the individual has faced challenges and has been transparent about his difficulties in qualifying with the current generation of cars.
Lawrence Barretto, after interviewing Hamilton following the qualifying session, commented, “He provided the most detailed responses I've heard from him in quite a while!”
"He aimed to describe the reasons behind its success, how they managed to improve it, and to acknowledge the team's efforts."
"He has been very critical of his own performance in qualifying. I believe he was somewhat frightened by the fact that he couldn't figure out why he was struggling to excel in the area that has defined his career for so long, which is securing strong qualifying positions and setting himself up well for the race."
He mentioned feeling a bond with the car, which I found intriguing. He was also excited about the upcoming race. This led me to believe that, despite not announcing it openly, he was confident about advancing in the competition.
"To essentially regress or fail to hold off Ferrari would have been difficult to accept."
Hamilton's performance at the Singapore Grand Prix suffered significantly because he opted to begin the race on soft tyres, unlike his competitors who chose medium tyres.
Mercedes acknowledged that the choice, which Hamilton criticized over team radio during the race, was an error.
Clarkson remarked, "When the tire covers were removed, we noticed he had opted for soft tires!"
“He was the sole competitor among the top 10 to use the soft tire. I couldn’t figure it out.”
Barretto responded by saying that Lewis believed strongly in his capacity to capitalize on an excellent starting position. He has consistently finished in the top five for the last 15 Singapore Grand Prix races.
Australian Channel 10 journalist Sam Power commented, "He had the advantage of starting on the clean side with soft tires, while Max Verstappen was on the dirty side. Does this give you a better opportunity? Typically, track position is more crucial at this location."
However, Clarkson noted, “The distance to the first turn is just 170 meters! It’s a very brief stretch.”
"If he had begun with the medium tires, Charles Leclerc would not have surpassed him."
"Is it a make-or-break situation? He doesn't mind if he finishes in fifth or sixth place; his main goal is to secure a spot on the podium."
Hamilton ended up in sixth place, while Russell secured fourth, missing the opportunity to fully capitalize on his impressive qualifying performance.
