Fuel Frustrations for Quartararo: A Repeat Problem Costs Crucial Points in MotoGP Races
Fabio Quartararo faces another fuel shortage: “Experiencing this twice in three races is excessively frequent”
“When the light came on, I had already run out of fuel. That's simply too delayed!”
Fabio Quartararo's hopes for a season-high fifth position were dashed in the Emilia Romagna MotoGP race when he ran out of fuel just before the final turns.
Despite the setback, the Monster Yamaha competitor found solace in a strong performance over the weekend. With a history of 11 MotoGP race victories and clinching the 2021 world championship, dropping to seventh place wasn't catastrophic.
"Quartararo expressed immense satisfaction with the race outcome, describing it as one of the top Grand Prix events of the season."
However, tensions escalated following another fuel issue at Motegi on Sunday, culminating in a challenging weekend for Quartararo, who stumbled over the finish line and dropped to twelfth place behind Honda's Johann Zarco.
"Having this fuel issue in two out of three races seems excessive," Quartararo expressed. "I began to notice it just before reaching the bridge, and then, right after the final turn, my bike simply came to a halt."
The man from France mentioned that he received no indication of running low on fuel until it was 'beyond the optimal time'.
"In my view, they're still not comfortable with the electronics. It appears that the approach to the fuel isn't effective, obviously," he elaborated.
"Furthermore, the dashboard lights are a significant issue. They're not functioning correctly, which is why the warning light activated only after I ran out of fuel. It was already too late!"
Matching his and Yamaha's highest finish of seventh place in the last three races, the team faced a challenging time at their home event in Motegi due to insufficient rear traction.
Quartararo expressed, "The weekend was extremely challenging. From the very first lap of the Grand Prix, it felt as if I was riding on a worn-out tire. The grip was just not there from the start, which is something we're struggling to comprehend."
"Our ability to maintain control is overly reliant on the condition of the track rather than the motorcycle itself."
Teammate Alex Rins faced comparable difficulties, finishing in 16th place, just ahead of Yamaha's wildcard entrant, Remy Gardner.
