Fuel Fiasco: Zarco Dodges Disaster as Quartararo’s Yamaha Splutters in Japanese MotoGP
Johann Zarco stated he "nearly collided" with Quartararo after Quartararo's bike ran out of gas. Zarco mentioned, "Fabio's fuel tank was empty at the final turn, and I came close to crashing into him."
Johann Zarco spent 20 laps trailing closely behind Fabio Quartararo's Yamaha bike, only to unexpectedly move into eleventh place when Quartararo, his fellow countryman, ran out of fuel just before reaching the end of the Japanese MotoGP on Sunday.
The two French riders were in pursuit of Jack Miller and Aleix Espargaro towards the end of the race when Quartararo unexpectedly experienced a power loss coming out of the last corner, causing Zarco to maneuver around the faltering M1.
Johann Zarco mentioned that he spent nearly the entire race trailing behind Fabio. He explained that he couldn't increase his speed because the front tire's pressure was slightly elevated, making it difficult to decelerate the motorcycle.
"I was aware that we would close in on Aleix and Miller during the final laps, but launching an attack against them proved challenging."
"In the final turn, Fabio's bike ran out of gas. I was right behind him and nearly collided with him."
"I ended up in 11th place because he ran out of fuel."
As a result, Zarco emerged as not just the best Honda rider but also the foremost competitor for a Japanese manufacturer on home turf.
"I’m pleased with finishing in 11th place. It’s a solid goal for us and earns us valuable points," expressed Zarco.
"We have advanced into a higher category than we were at the start of the year."
"We're struggling with acceleration and aren't optimizing the use of the rear tire at the crucial times."
"I'm not sure what actions we'll take to improve, but I believe I can perform better in races compared to how I started the season."
In the world championship standings, Zarco holds the 17th position, making him the leading Honda racer. He is ranked one spot and eight points ahead of his teammate, Takaaki Nakagami, who secured a 13th place finish on Sunday.
