Frustration at Monza: Hamilton Furious Over Qualifying ‘Weakness’, Eyes Recovery in Italian Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton was utterly enraged by his poor performance in qualifying
Lewis Hamilton believed he was in a strong position to contend for the top spot at Monza.
Lewis Hamilton expresses intense frustration over his qualifying round at the F1 Italian Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion secured the sixth spot on the starting grid for Sunday's Monza race, trailing the pole position by a mere 0.186 seconds. His teammate George Russell managed to outperform him, securing third place.
Hamilton, who had been the fastest in two out of the three practice rounds, firmly believed he could have vied for a spot on the front row of the starting grid but acknowledged that he was the only one responsible for not achieving it.
"Extremely angry. I had a shot at being in the lead," Hamilton expressed to Sky. "I could have easily secured a spot in the first row at the very least. Ultimately, I didn't perform as needed."
I fell behind by a tenth and a half during the first and second turns, and then dropped an additional tenth at the final corner. The fault lies solely with me.
"For a while, my struggle has been with qualifying and it's been puzzling me. I'll continue to work on it."
In response to a query about his strategy for moving past the disappointment and preparing for Sunday's grand prix, Hamilton said, "Likely, I'll spend the next few hours giving myself a hard time.
In the end, I need to progress. We possess a competitive race vehicle, and the team has performed exceptionally well this weekend.
"The vehicle's performance has significantly improved since the previous race, and the team merits superior outcomes. Perhaps they'll achieve that with Kimi [Antonelli]."
This season, out of 16 races, Hamilton has qualified behind Russell on 12 occasions.
Hamilton is convinced that he stands no chance of competing for the win in Sunday's grand prix.
"The opportunity to contend for a victory in the race is no longer possible, and tomorrow my focus will be on making as much of a comeback as possible. I'll aim to overtake the Ferraris, with the hope of advancing to a position where I can compete for a spot on the podium," he further stated.
