From Controversy to Comeback: Juri Vips Secures Second Chance in IndyCar with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing
Dismissed Red Bull racer receives a second chance in American motorsports
"He has contributed significantly to our team this year through extensive simulator work, aiding our comprehension of the hybrid system."
Juri Vips, formerly dismissed from the Red Bull junior team, has secured a fresh chance in the world of racing.
He is set to compete in the IndyCar series, driving for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing during the Portland Grand Prix in August.
In 2022, Red Bull ended its contract with Vips following his use of a racial epithet during a live Twitch stream.
Serving as the backup to Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez on the F1 team, he competed in Formula 2 before his departure from the role.
Over the past two years, Vips has discovered a second chance in IndyCar, where he's poised for another significant opportunity.
Vips is set to compete with the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team for his third event, previously participating at Portland and Laguna Seca the prior year. In Portland last year, he commenced and concluded the race in the 18th position.
This year, Vips will be behind the wheel of the No. 75 AMADA Honda.
He expressed his deep appreciation for the team, acknowledging their role in providing him with this chance.
"I've collaborated extensively with the team on the simulator initiative, and although it's been a year since I last drove the car, I believe the skills I acquired during last year's events at Portland and Laguna Seca will enable me to quickly adapt and perform well."
"The challenge remains significant, and it's something I'm eagerly anticipating."
Team co-owner Bobby Rahal expressed contentment at having Juri compete in Portland for several reasons.
"Firstly, his performances at both Portland and Laguna Seca the previous year demonstrated that he undoubtedly possesses the speed to be competitive in any race he participates in with us."
"He has contributed significantly to our team this year through his extensive simulator work, aiding us in comprehending the hybrid system. It's gratifying to acknowledge his hard work."
"I'm optimistic this will open up additional racing opportunities for him at RLL."
