Franco Morbidelli’s Harrowing Journey: From Memory Loss to MotoGP Comeback
Franco Morbidelli's startling admission: “I experienced memory loss and couldn't recognize” relatives
Fresh insights from Franco Morbidelli about his preseason testing accident
Franco Morbidelli has disclosed startling new information regarding his accident during preseason trials, which occurred nine months earlier.
In January, at Portimao, Morbidelli experienced a crash while riding a Ducati Panigale V4, promptly receiving assistance from the Marquez siblings.
The event disrupted Morbidelli's initial attempts to transition from Yamaha to Pramac Ducati, and he has since acknowledged much more significant consequences.
"I experienced amnesia for a duration of two weeks," he shared with La Repubblica.
"I failed to recognize individuals who were significantly close to me, key figures within my family. It felt improbable, yet…
"I was filled with every conceivable fear imaginable."
"Thankfully, we observed that clarity and memories were gradually coming back."
"Day by day, a new piece, something additional: my mind began to operate once more as it used to."
Morbidelli had been overcoming a pair of difficult seasons with Yamaha.
His move to Pramac Ducati, which boasts the top motorcycle in MotoGP, presented an excellent opportunity to rejuvenate his career.
However, his accident during preseason testing left him at a disadvantage. Following the crash, he was unable to participate in the tests at Sepang and Qatar.
"Following two challenging years on the Yamaha, experiencing a setback like this makes you feel like it's the last straw," Morbidelli expressed.
"I clenched my teeth tightly."
Morbidelli achieved a top-10 placement by the fifth race. So far, he has secured a position within the top 10 in four Grand Prix events this year.
In 2025, he will transition from Pramac to VR46, joining forces once again with Valentino Rossi's team and enabling him to ride a Ducati from the previous year.
