Francesco Guidotti Departs KTM Amid Strategic Shift, Reflects Positively on Tenure and Future Direction
Francesco Guidotti Speaks Out: “There's No Drama, I Fulfilled My Role”
Francesco Guidotti shares initial thoughts following the announcement of his departure as KTM team manager.
Francesco Guidotti has made his initial public remarks following the announcement by KTM that he will leave his position as the manager of their factory MotoGP team, with Aki Ajo set to take over the role in 2025.
In a conversation with Simon Crafar of Dorna during the first practice session at Motegi, Guidotti, who moved to KTM from Pramac Ducati in 2022, stated:
"I don't view it as unfortunate. I believe it's the appropriate action at this time.
KTM is an outstanding firm, and after the initial five to six years, they opted for a change in direction by having Guidotti take over from Mike Leitner.
Over the past three years, we've made significant progress, and I believe Aki is the perfect individual to bring our efforts to completion.
He possesses the necessary trust and respect within the organization. He is thoroughly familiar with the riders he is set to oversee in the upcoming year.
"I don't perceive any controversy surrounding me. I simply performed my duties."
"I'm pleased with my contributions and glad that someone else can complete the task for this organization."
Under Leitner's guidance, the team celebrated five MotoGP victories from 2017 to 2021. When Guidotti took over in 2022, the team secured two GP wins, followed by two Sprint victories, and achieved a record-setting fourth-place finish in the world championship with Brad Binder in 2023.
However, the pursuit of a MotoGP championship, which is what Guidotti seems to imply with his phrase 'finalize the job,' has not yet come to fruition.
Binder and Pedro Acosta are contending for the fifth position and the top spot among non-Ducati riders in the current world championship. Up to this point, the RC16 has not secured any Sprint or GP victories this season.
Guidotti has not yet disclosed his plans for the future.
