Ferrari and Hamilton Unite with Eyes on Eighth Title: Elkann Vows No Retirement Tour for F1 Legend
Ferrari's lead, John Elkann, promises a team of driven individuals to support Lewis Hamilton in clinching his eighth championship
John Elkann, at the helm of Ferrari, emphasizes that Lewis Hamilton's move is not for a leisurely retirement phase.
Ferrari's head, John Elkann, has set the objective for the squad to secure an eighth F1 title with Lewis Hamilton, emphasizing that Hamilton’s move to the renowned Italian team is not for the purpose of easing into retirement.
In February, it was revealed that Hamilton would make a surprising switch to Ferrari, concluding his extensive partnership with Mercedes.
The sports world was left in shock when the top driver in F1 teamed up with the leading constructor.
Since Kimi Raikkonen's victory in 2007, Ferrari has not secured an F1 drivers' championship, and Hamilton aims to bring an end to their prolonged pursuit of motorsport's most prestigious award.
Elkann has a definite objective with Hamilton behind the wheel.
He explained to Corriere dello Sport: “Some events unfold rapidly. It was the time when he and Ferrari came together.
"He's aiming for his eighth championship, and Ferrari is eager to claim victory too. With Lewis on board, their team is more formidable. He's not joining Ferrari just to coast into retirement; having driven individuals who are determined to succeed around him is crucial."
Hamilton is set to continue racing for Ferrari into his 40s, making him the grid's second-most senior driver, following Fernando Alonso.
In response to a question about the contribution of a driver at Hamilton's age, he elaborated: "Currently, Formula 1 is experiencing genuine rivalry, as four teams are tightly matched: Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes.
"Maximizing potential is crucial: seasoned professionals like Hamilton and Alonso illustrate that experience leads to consistency, which is highly valuable."
Many top athletes continue to compete at a high level well into their 30s and 40s.
In the realm of Tennis, Novak Djokovic continues to dominate, clinching the Olympic gold medal in France.
Elkann mentioned other notable athletes like Roger Federer, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi while talking about Hamilton.
"Concluding his thoughts, he listed Federer, Biles, Ronaldo, Messi, and Paltrinieri as examples. He emphasized how through commitment and hard work, they are surpassing the age-related physical barriers."
"We are currently experiencing a historical period where longevity has increased, and as a result, the careers of athletes, both male and female, are lasting longer."
