Fabio Quartararo discusses Yamaha's progress
Fabio Quartararo has detailed the steps Yamaha is taking to advance the M1 following another productive session.
Quartararo recorded the sixth-best time during Friday's practice session for the Indonesian MotoGP, making him the top performer among non-Ducati riders.
In the Emilia-Romagna MotoGP, Quartararo was on track for his best finish of the season, but he ran out of fuel in the closing stages, which ultimately cost him.
While in Mandalika, he commented, “We consistently find ourselves at the lower end, despite having power."
“We revisited previous settings to make some progress. Currently, the bike's control is excellent.
"Yamaha's main objective now is to increase power without sacrificing agility."
"The most important factor is the grip, followed by power, and then the electronics."
Quartararo was questioned about the specific Yamaha frames he tested on Friday in Indonesia, but his response was complex.
"I've tested numerous frames! For the first bike, we stuck with the 'Misano one' frame," he clarified.
“At the second Misano event, we tested one that I didn’t favor, so we reverted to the original setup.”
"Today, we experimented with a different option. It still didn't work, so we switched back to the usual method."
“We have returned to the baseline set at ‘Misano one’.
“There might be another one in Japan.
“I told the team, ‘It’s not impressive when you recognize the spec and the frame by name!’”
"However, this is precisely what we require at this moment to move forward."
While Quartararo is encouraged by Yamaha’s advancements, he believes the upcoming race will be the real test.
"We're really pleased with the progress we've made. However, it was a very tight competition," he remarked.
"On the bright side, we were nearer to the top than the bottom, which is encouraging."
"In practical terms, reaching Q2 on a Friday in Japan would indicate that we have made progress."
