Experts Back Hamilton in Controversial Overtake on Sainz at Spanish GP: A Clean Move or a Missed Penalty?
Experts weigh in on Carlos Sainz's grievances regarding Lewis Hamilton’s maneuver
“One party is bound to be pressured, bumped, and ultimately, face difficulty”
Insiders within the racing circuit have aligned with Lewis Hamilton regarding the collision that upset Carlos Sainz.
During the 19th lap of Sunday's F1 Spanish Grand Prix, the driver from Mercedes managed to pass the competitor driving for Ferrari.
Their wheels made contact when Hamilton made a tight pass on the inside, causing Sainz to voice his grievances about the move over the team radio.
Officials decided against launching an investigation into the event.
Hamilton asserted his innocence, stating, "I believe it was a fair move. In the end, he didn't completely block the inside line. He left an opening that I took advantage of.
"In a delayed maneuver, I managed to pull up next to him, our wheels were side by side. Since he was still on the circuit, I gave him as much room as possible."
Sky Sports' Anthony Davidson proceeded to analyze the overtaking maneuver.

He assessed, "While approaching Sainz, one wonders, 'Should he move to the outer or inner side?'"
"As he mentioned, the space remains open on the interior."
"At this stage, the decision is definitely made."
You observe the vehicle approaching you from the exterior.
"Vehicles on the outer side must maintain a distance equal to one car's width from the white line. Keep in mind, the white line signifies the boundary of the track, not the curb."
Due to the curb, [Hamilton's] vehicle rebounds. Lewis struggles to control the vehicle, doing everything he can to prevent it from colliding with the Ferrari.
Given his previous experiences of being edged onto the curb, he's now depending on Carlos to allow him additional space, as he has felt somewhat constricted before.
A slight collision occurred, causing a piece of carbon fibre to break away and soar into the air from the vehicle.
"There was a slight collision. However, it mainly occurred, in my opinion, due to Lewis being pushed slightly into the corner."
"An identical incident occurred with Sainz and his teammate!"
Damon Hill confirmed his view that Hamilton's maneuver was fair, stating, "I believe it was. There have been some fantastic races. Some incredible passes."
"Reaching those boundaries isn't always a precise discipline."
Someone will feel the pressure, be pushed aside, and ultimately, someone will endure hardship.
"They are grown men. It's time they learned to take care of their own needs."
Danica Patrick commented, "I enjoyed it; I believe he performed well. There was sufficient space.
"Carlos ought to stay low-key. It's wisest for him to maintain concentration and simply move beyond him.
"I believe that occasionally, when you express grievances, engage in radio broadcasts, or allow yourself to be diverted in such manner, it might slightly detract from the overall situation."
