On Thursday, political factions and independent Members disclosed the appointed MEPs for each Parliament delegation for the 10th term.
The European Parliament is set to have 48 interparliamentary delegations for the upcoming legislative period, which is an increase of four from the 2019-2024 term. The selection of MEPs for each delegation is determined internally by the political groups and non-attached Members. A complete list of the members assigned to each delegation can be found here and will also be recorded in the plenary minutes. This announcement was made during a plenary session on Thursday, following a vote on Wednesday that was approved by a show of hands to adjust the numerical composition of the delegations, updating the decision made in July 2024.
According to Rule 229 in Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, the formation of delegations must strive to fairly represent member states, political perspectives, and genders. Additionally, no delegation is allowed to have over a third of its members from the same nation.
Context
Interparliamentary delegations engage in dialogue and share insights with lawmakers from various nations, regions, and organizations to promote the European Union's essential principles: freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. Activities representing the European Parliament and its stance can only be conducted by official delegations that have received authorization from the Conference of Presidents.
Upcoming Actions
Leaders and deputy leaders of the delegations will be chosen during their initial meetings on September 30 and October 3.
