Esteban Ocon has praised his upcoming Haas F1 teammate, Oliver Bearman, calling him an “exceptional talent” after his outstanding performance at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Bearman was brought in to take Kevin Magnussen's place in Baku, as Magnussen was prohibited from participating due to a race suspension.
During his debut race for Haas, Bearman managed to outpace Nico Hulkenberg in qualifying and subsequently finished within the points.
Bearman is set to become a full-time driver for Haas next year, partnering with Ocon and creating a completely new driver lineup for the American team.
Commenting on Bearman's performance in Azerbaijan, Ocon remarked, "His actions in Baku were truly impressive, and I was aware of it."
"I believe everyone at the track recognized his exceptional skill. What he achieved was truly remarkable, being able to match the pace immediately on such a challenging circuit."
"I watched his lap in Formula 2 where he had the steering wheel turned and still secured the pole position, and that says it all. It shows that he can quickly adapt and feel comfortable in any car he drives."
"It's beneficial for him, the team, and me that he'll gain valuable experience before the full season starts next year."
Ocon is set to take on the role of Haas' unofficial team leader, a position he has never held before in his career.
At Force India and Alpine, his teammates, Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso, had more experience.
More recently, however, he has been teamed up with Pierre Gasly.
Discussing his connection with Bearman, Ocon mentioned, "We've had a few conversations, but we've been extremely busy, so we haven't talked as much as I would have liked."
"We'll have plenty of opportunities to connect this winter and catch up, so I'm not worried about that. It's been wonderful to see him excel in Baku, and I'm happy for both him and the team."
