Enea Bastianini’s Hasty Move to KTM Amid Aprilia Interest: A Missed Opportunity?
Enea Bastianini became anxious over his decision to go with KTM; Aprilia was ready to select him
"Had he delayed his decision by just a couple of days…"
It has been proposed that Enea Bastianini made a premature decision in choosing KTM.
In the contest for the 2025 factory Ducati seat, attention shifted away from Bastianini as the focus centered on Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin.
Realizing his position was at risk following the confirmation of Marquez, Bastianini quickly secured a spot with KTM's Tech3 team for the upcoming season.
"Truthfully, it was his desire to remain, yet the opportunity was stripped from him," Neil Hodgson from TNT Sports expressed.
"He likely got a bit anxious. The available seats were filling up fast. When the Tech3 KTM spot opened up, he promptly made the switch."
Had he delayed his decision by merely a couple of days, the Aprilia factory seat would have opened up for him.
"I believe they would have opted for Enea over Marco Bezzecchi. Personally, given the option between the two, I would have made the same selection.
"He's likely to regret that decision. However, indecision leads to someone being left without transportation!"
KTM has announced an intriguing new pairing of Bastianini and Maverick Vinales for Tech3 for the upcoming season, ensuring they receive the same equipment as the factory team members, Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta.
However, KTM's decline in performance compared to the leading Ducatis this season continues to raise concerns.
"Currently, we don't have a solution," stated Sylvain Guintoli.
"The organization is undergoing changes, with [technical director] Fabiano Sterlacchini set to depart as his contract has not been extended.
"At present, it seems they are facing difficulties. While Ducatis and Aprilias are making progress on various circuits, KTM appears unable to advance."
Hodgson mentioned, "I had a conversation with the riders. The issue is that it doesn't boil down to a single aspect, such as braking stability or electronics.
"The challenge is compounded by the fact that it involves a mix of various elements."
"These are minor specifics. We're discussing, potentially, a difference of 0.2 or 0.3 seconds. Yet, uncovering that is significant; it's not an easy solution."
"KTM is deeply committed to achieving victory in this competition, and they're prepared to invest all their resources towards this goal."
"Next year, they have an impressive roster, with the ideal riders on board. Now, they just need to ensure they have the perfect motorcycle to match."
Lately, the performance of young newcomer Acosta has notably declined in the latest competitions.
Following initial top finishes in Portugal and the United States, he hasn't been a challenge to the regular leaders in the recent few races.
"Guintoli observed that Acosta, despite it being the winter testing period, managed to achieve remarkable speeds on the motorcycle."
He was at ease handling the bike's front section. During the initial Grand Prix races, he distinguished himself and exerted pressure on Binder and Jack Miller.
"Since that time, he's encountered several setbacks and a couple of failures."
