Enea Bastianini’s Hasty KTM Move: A Missed Aprilia Opportunity and the Challenges Ahead
Enea Bastianini "felt anxious" about choosing KTM; Aprilia "would have selected" him
"If he had waited, even for just a few days…"
It has been indicated that Enea Bastianini made a premature commitment to KTM.
Enea Bastianini has been overlooked in the competition between Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin for the 2025 Ducati factory team position.
The present holder of the position, Bastianini, recognized the inevitable outcome. Soon after Marquez's confirmation, he committed to joining KTM's Tech3 team for the upcoming season.
Neil Hodgson from TNT Sports remarked, "We understand that he wished to remain, but that opportunity was removed from him."
"He seemed to panic slightly as the seats were getting filled rapidly. The Tech3 KTM seat was still open, and he decided to switch teams immediately."
"If he had just waited a couple more days, the factory Aprilia ride would have been his."
"I believe they would have picked Enea over Marco Bezzecchi. If it were up to me, that's the decision I would make between those two racers."
"He might be feeling remorseful about that choice now. However, if no decision is made, somebody is going to be left without transportation!"
KTM has announced an intriguing new lineup featuring Bastianini and Maverick Vinales for Tech3 in the upcoming season. They will be provided with the same equipment as the factory team riders, Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta.
However, KTM's decline in challenging the leading Ducatis this season continues to be a concern.
“There isn’t a resolution right now,” stated Sylvain Guintoli.
“There are changes happening within the organization. Technical Director Fabiano Sterlacchini is leaving as his contract has not been extended.”
"At the moment, it appears they are having difficulties. While Ducatis and Aprilias are making progress on most tracks, KTM has yet to make similar advancements."
Hodgson mentioned: “I talked to the riders. The issue isn’t limited to a single crucial aspect, such as braking stability or the electronics.
"It's a combination of various elements that complicates finding a solution."
"These are minor nuances. We're discussing a time difference of perhaps 0.2 or 0.3 seconds. However, identifying such a discrepancy is significant and not an easy solution."
“KTM is extremely dedicated to achieving victory at this level, so they're willing to invest all their resources into it.”
"They have an excellent roster for the upcoming year, with the appropriate riders on board, and now they must create the perfect motorcycle to match their needs."
The recent rounds have seen a decline in the performance of teenage rookie Acosta.
Following his initial successes in Portugal and America, he has not posed a significant challenge to the regular leaders in the recent races.
"According to Guintoli, Acosta hopped on the bike and managed to achieve impressive speeds during winter testing."
He was at ease handling the bike's front end. During the initial Grand Prix races, he stood out and applied pressure on Binder and Jack Miller.
“Since that time, he has encountered some difficulties and experienced several setbacks.”
