Electronics Woes Dash Binder’s Podium Dreams in Motegi MotoGP Sprint
"Brad Binder's chances of securing a podium finish in the MotoGP sprint at Motegi were dashed due to an electronic failure. The KTM rider had to withdraw from the race prematurely because of a problem with his motorcycle."
KTM announced that an issue with the electronics dashed Brad Binder's chances of securing a podium finish in the MotoGP sprint race at the Japanese Grand Prix on Saturday.
The racer from South Africa secured the fifth position on his RC16 for the starting grid and was competing for a spot on the podium, holding fourth place, during the initial laps of the sprint race at Motegi.
During the third lap, Binder had to reduce his speed and ultimately withdraw from the race due to an unidentified issue with the bike's electronics.
A statement from KTM released after the race indicated that an unforeseen problem with the 'electronics' was the cause of the issue.
As a result, the engine's performance was impacted. The team is actively investigating the issue to prevent a recurrence in the future.
Binder expressed his excitement, saying, "Being on the second row was great."
"I started off reasonably well and initially focused on understanding the situation."
"Sadly, after just a few laps, we encountered a minor issue with the electronics, which ended my race prematurely. That's how racing goes, but fortunately, we have another chance tomorrow."
Fellow racer Jack Miller finished as the leading KTM competitor at the end of the sprint race, securing eighth place. This came after Tech3’s Pedro Acosta, who was in the lead, suffered a crash on the ninth lap of the 12-lap event.
The Australian driver found himself in a competitive battle for the last spots that award points. However, his performance was affected because his soft rear tire wore out sooner than he had anticipated.
"I felt quite content at the start of the race but then experienced some difficulties," Miller shared with motogp.com.
"The decrease happened sooner than I expected during the previous attempts."
"I'm not sure if the cooler weather played a role or something else, but I managed to maintain my position almost until the final laps."
"I had a minor tussle with Marco Bezzecchi, but sadly, I bumped into him slightly, which gave Alex Marquez the opportunity to pass."
“Overall, I'm pleased to have earned some points today and I'm eager for what's in store tomorrow.”
"We're aiming to improve and join the next set of riders. At the start of the race, Frankie Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio were in that group, and it would be great to match their speed."
