Daniel Ricciardo Aims to Keep Spirits High Amidst Speculation and Impressive Start in Singapore GP
Amidst circulating speculation, Daniel Ricciardo aims to keep his spirits high following RB's impressive early performance. Daniel Ricciardo is optimistic that RB will carry their notable initial pace into the qualifying rounds in Singapore.
Daniel Ricciardo is optimistic about keeping his spirits high following a strong opening for RB at the F1 Singapore Grand Prix weekend.
Both drivers from Red Bull secured positions within the top 10 during the two practice sessions on Friday, signaling a promising and remarkable beginning to the weekend's events in Singapore.
Yuki Tsunoda concluded the second free practice session among the four fastest drivers, with Ricciardo close behind in sixth place, only 0.004 seconds behind McLaren's Oscar Piastri, who found himself positioned between the pair of Red Bull drivers.
"Both of us had a great day as a team," Ricciardo shared with F1TV.
"This afternoon, we secured the fourth and sixth positions. Remarkably, four of us finished within a mere two hundredths of a second of each other, indicating an extremely tight competition."
"We're quite satisfied with the vehicle, just needs a bit of adjustment."
"It was great to find ourselves at the forefront. It seems we have a solid setup in place."
"The previous occasions where we utilized significant downforce were at Zandvoort and Budapest, where we showed strong performance. Perhaps [this track] is better aligned with our vehicle's capabilities, especially with the use of larger wings and this particular type of circuit."
"We genuinely believed we'd perform well in Baku, yet we didn't, due to insufficient downforce."
"The increased downforce configuration seems to be more favorable for us. We're optimistic that this condition will persist into tomorrow, allowing us to continue celebrating and joyfully exclaiming 'what a gem!'"
Ricciardo and Red Bull's improvement in their performance coincides with a weekend filled with rampant rumors regarding the future of the 35-year-old Australian driver.
Ricciardo is vying for the last Red Bull seat next to Tsunoda for the 2025 season, competing against Red Bull's reserve driver, Liam Lawson. However, there are rumors that he might be ousted even before the upcoming race.
On Thursday, he conceded that he is uncertain about keeping his position but anticipates a decision after the upcoming race in Singapore this weekend.
Sky Sports F1 analyst Martin Brundle is convinced that Singapore will mark Ricciardo's last race in his current position.
"From what I gather, Daniel won't be behind the wheel in Austin for the upcoming grand prix. Instead, he'll continue to be part of the Red Bull roster," Brundle mentioned.
The interest in Liam Lawson's performance is high for various reasons. Daniel's stronger performance throughout the season could have significantly impacted not only the secondary team at RB but also the main team at Red Bull.
"The outcome hasn't met his expectations. I don't anticipate seeing him behind the wheel in Austin."
