The verdict emerged shortly after disclosures that Edwards earned between £475,000 and £479,999 during the fiscal year 2023-24, positioning him as the third highest-paid presenter at the BBC.
This marked a notable rise from the prior year, during which Edwards earned between £435,000 and £439,999.
Reports indicate that Ms. Nandy is slated to have a meeting with Mr. Davie later today.
BBC Expresses Outrage Over Edwards Incident
Following Edwards' admission of guilt, the BBC issued a statement expressing their astonishment at the revelations presented during the trial, emphasizing that such reprehensible actions are utterly unacceptable.
At the time he was detained, authorities had not yet filed any charges against Mr. Edwards, and the BBC was informed about a serious risk to his health.
Prosecutor Ian Hope mentioned that there is a possibility of considering a suspended sentence for Edwards.
The ex-BBC anchor is set to face trial in September.
Between December 2020 and August 2021, Edwards received 41 inappropriate photographs involving minors.
Seven incidents were classified as category A, indicating the highest level of severity, while 12 fell into category B and 22 into category C.
Authorities indicated that among the most severe images were two videos featuring a young child, who appeared to be between seven and nine years old.
It was reported to Westminster Magistrates Court that the children depicted in those images were mostly aged between 13 and 15.
The photos were forwarded to Edwards by 25-year-old Alex Williams from Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales.
The investigation into Edwards by the Metropolitan Police commenced only after they discovered his WhatsApp conversation with Williams during a completely different investigation.
Following the initial inquiry, Williams was found guilty of seven charges concerning indecent and prohibited images of children. On March 15, at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, he received a 12-month jail sentence, which was suspended.
Philip Evans KC, representing Edwards, stated that there was no indication that his client had produced or generated any of the images.
What is the significance of 'creating' images?
The Crown Prosecution Service defines "making" as the act of opening, accessing, downloading, and storing content, or even receiving an image through social media, regardless of whether it was solicited or if it was shared within a group.
Images classified as Category A are the most severe, encompassing acts of penetrative sexual behavior, as well as sexual acts involving animals or sadistic elements. Category B images, on the other hand, depict non-penetrative sexual activities.
Category C images do not show any sexual behavior.
