Coulthard Expresses Surprise at Hamilton’s Strategy Dissatisfaction in Singapore GP Debacle
Astonishment Voiced Over Lewis Hamilton's Strategy Discontent in Singapore
"It astonishes me that this was even a topic of conversation"
David Coulthard expressed his astonishment at Lewis Hamilton's dissatisfaction with his tactical approach during the previous weekend's F1 Singapore Grand Prix.
Mercedes admitted their mistake in opting for soft tyres for Hamilton, leading to a premature pit stop.
Hamilton voiced his frustration over the team radio, stating that Mercedes' "offset" was severely impacting him, as he fell from a third-place start to a sixth-place finish.
"Coulthard, a former F1 driver, commented on Channel 4 that he was indeed not pleased."
"He was dissatisfied with the plan. It astonishes me that it even became a topic of conversation."
"Starting the race on soft tires means you'll likely have to stop for a pit earlier."
"A Safety Car's presence might have significantly enhanced the performance of a medium."
"All those positive what-ifs, reservations, and possibilities.
Ultimately, despite an impressive performance in the qualifiers, the grand prix turned out to be unremarkable.
After the event, Toto Wolff conceded, "We believed the Soft tyre would offer Lewis a head start, but it ended up being a mistaken choice."
George Russell, who began the race trailing Hamilton, ended up crossing the finish line ahead of him
In Singapore, Hamilton managed to qualify ahead of Russell, marking just the fifth occasion this season that he accomplished this, securing the third position on the starting grid.
"It's wonderful to witness him rediscovering his magic touch during the qualifiers," former teammate Nico Rosberg shared with Sky Sports.
"He was once remarkably powerful during the qualifying rounds. He ranks among the all-time greats, particularly in qualifying stages."
A glimmer of hope for struggling Ferrari
Ferrari, the team Hamilton is set to join, also faced challenges at the Singapore Grand Prix.
Charles Leclerc started the race in ninth position and crossed the finish line in fifth. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz began the race in tenth place and ended up finishing seventh.
"Coulthard evaluated it as a definitely missed chance."
They were truly struggling to get the tires changed.
In Baku, the tire pressures were increased as mandated by Pirelli. At this location, they were able to lower them.
Due to the reduced blankets they're currently operating with, Carlos was taken by surprise. This is what led to his collision with the wall.
"Charles? Merely a minor error. It was all about bouncing back from that point."
"However, the speed is present within the racing tempo."
