Carlos Sainz on Notice: Rising Star Franco Colapinto Shakes Up Williams Dynamics Ahead of 2025 Season
Carlos Sainz advised to be vigilant: "Franco Colapinto is younger, more affordable"
Carlos Sainz might encounter a rival prior to his start with Williams
Carlos Sainz has been advised to be cautious upon his arrival at Williams next season.
Williams achieved a significant victory by securing former Ferrari driver Sainz for their racing lineup, to race alongside Alex Albon from 2025 onward.
Since that time, Franco Colapinto has joined their ranks, garnering attention within the F1 circuit due to his remarkable performances on the track.
Colapinto was brought in as an interim substitute for the struggling Logan Sargeant and has shown impressive control and skill, despite his lack of experience.
"Next year, when Carlos is behind the wheel of the other vehicle, Williams will then evaluate Alex's performance," Guenther Steiner mentioned on the Red Flags podcast.
"If they're on par, they'll argue: 'We possess Colapinto, who is a decade younger than the others and significantly cheaper, yet he lacks a drive'."
"Being in this situation is advantageous."
"I'm confident they'll attempt to secure a spot for him. He'll definitely attract attention."
"He's encountered some minor mishaps, but impressively, he always manages to get back on track promptly."
Steiner praised Colapinto for his remarkable overtake in the opening lap at the Singapore Grand Prix, stating, "What he accomplished was outstanding."
He spotted an opening and made his way into it. He's present to demonstrate his ability to remain.
"From my perspective, yes, he did. Across three competitions, he demonstrated his rightful place among them."
However, Steiner is confident that Williams will remain satisfied with their decision to sign Sainz to a lucrative contract, despite him being a Formula 1 race victor.
"Steiner mentioned that having someone like Sainz on board is always beneficial for a team, implying there's no regret in that decision."
"Clearly, he provides significant assistance by drawing others in."
"James Vowles deserves credit for discovering Colapinto, but the question remains: why did it take him an additional three months to do so?"
"I'd attempt to hand him over to Audi. It's unclear to me whether they'd be interested or not."
He has proven his capability, so what's stopping him? If not, the alternatives are quite limited.
"Albon has secured a long-term contract with Williams, as has Carlos."
"Colapinto finds himself caught in a tough spot, poor guy!"
