Binder Navigates MotoGP Challenges in Japan: Reflects on Acosta’s Fall and Tire Woes
Brad Binder's response to Acosta's crash: "I'm not the only one…"
He reflected, "Seeing that, I realized it wasn't just happening to me, so I had to be cautious and handle it with care."
Brad Binder experienced a similar frightening moment as his KTM teammate Pedro Acosta, just a lap before the newcomer was eliminated from Sunday's Japanese MotoGP due to a crash.
"It was a challenging race today. At the start, when I tried to keep up with the group, I consistently lost grip at the front," Binder remarked following his sixth-place finish.
Acosta, previously leading before his crash in the Saturday Sprint, found himself in second position, sandwiched between Francesco Bagnaia and Binder, before he lost control and slid out at the last turn during the third lap out of 24.
"Binder disclosed that in the lap preceding Acosta's crash, he himself had a close call with the front end at the same bend."
"In the following round, I noticed him advancing, which made me realize it wasn't just my own challenge, so I had to be more cautious and manage it with care."
"Following roughly 6-7 circuits, the situation became more manageable."
However, as the race neared its end, although the grip at the front remained steady, the grip at the back had completely diminished
"The South African mentioned that with around 6 to 7 laps remaining, the tire's center was entirely worn out, leading to continuous spinning throughout the straights."
"Maintaining cleanliness and consistency proved to be a challenge due to the significant lack of grip."
"However, I believe that was a challenge for everyone today, judging by the significant differences in performance."
Overall, everything was fine. It wasn't the performance I had hoped for, but I gave it my all, and that was the extent of what we could achieve today.
Despite Binder not completing the Sprint because of a mechanical problem, Acosta's back-to-back DNFs at Motegi have allowed Binder to reclaim the fifth position in the world championship, edging out his soon-to-be team-mate by a narrow margin of two points.
