Bagnaia Reflects on Silverstone Struggle: “I Want to Know What I Did Wrong” as Ducati Marks Historic Podium Achievements
Francesco Bagnaia Expresses Confusion Over Performance Mishap
Francesco Bagnaia is puzzled following his difficulties in the concluding stages of the Silverstone race.
Having been in the lead for the majority of the event, Francesco Bagnaia's chances of winning the British MotoGP came to an end following a fall.
Jorge Martin initially surpassed Bagnaia, followed by an opening that allowed his teammate, Enea Bastianini, to gracefully move ahead and eventually secure the victory.
Bagnaia expressed his frustration at not being in contention for victory until the race's conclusion, stating, "This afternoon and over the next few days, my primary focus will be to review all the data thoroughly. I'm eager to understand my mistakes."
I believed I was handling both my speed and tires effectively, but as soon as Jorge passed me, it became clear he was in a superior condition, and I began to face significant difficulties.
"I fell behind when Enea passed me. I began to reduce my speed and focused solely on completing the race because, on this day, finishing was more significant than competing for a higher rank.
"They simply outpaced me. I gave it my all, and my all resulted in a third-place finish."
This isn't the first instance I've encountered this issue. Whenever I'm dissatisfied with the front tire, such as choosing the medium option today, I end up wearing out the rear tire more because I'm unable to exert additional pressure on the front to improve its turning.
"Anything beyond this was unattainable. Pleased with the outcome, though it's unfortunate that I had an accident yesterday."
Though Bagnaia didn't secure the race victory he hoped for, which would have established him as the first Ducati competitor to clinch five consecutive grand prix wins, the current world champion achieved his 43rd career podium finish.
Among the riders who have donned Ducati's colors, Bagnaia was delighted to accomplish this milestone.
"Bagnaia expressed, "Having achieved 43 podiums is certainly impressive. The figure is beginning to look quite substantial."
Ducati achieved a new landmark by completing a podium sweep at Silverstone, marking their seventh consecutive victory of this kind, a feat that also establishes a new record in MotoGP history.
Bagnaia further commented, "When you combine top-notch riders with superior motorcycles, you end up with this type of dominance."
There are eight of us, each with a motorcycle capable of victory, and among those eight motorcycles, five or six riders stand out as the absolute best.
"I believe it's standard to achieve such outcomes. We consistently review the information, which inspires us to enhance our performance."
"Ducati's success is significant, and it's our collective efforts that contribute to our continuous enhancement."
