Jorge Martin Reflects on Silverstone: Admits Bastianini Was Unbeatable Despite Last-Lap Mistake
Jorge Martin concedes that the outcome wouldn't have changed even if he hadn't erred on the second-to-last lap, acknowledging he couldn't have kept Enea Bastianini at bay.
Jorge Martin was on the brink of securing his initial grand prix victory since Le Mans, but Enea Bastianini clinched his second win at Silverstone by surpassing him, mirroring his success in Saturday's MotoGP sprint race.
Bastianini capitalized on Martin's error at turn three, seizing the opportunity to take the lead. Despite this mistake allowing Bastianini to move ahead, the new championship leader believed that preventing the factory rider from securing a victory was out of the question.
Discussing his weekend experience, Martin mentioned, "Personally, I struggled to feel confident with the front throughout the entire weekend.
"I faced considerable challenges. Today, we made a modest advancement, and I believe we are still in the process of establishing our foundational set-up, so to speak.
I'm not sure why we consistently switch from Saturday to Sunday, but today seemed somewhat improved, although I wasn't completely well and there was a slight movement.
"Following Pecco, I actually felt comfortable, but leading the pack, I had difficulties halting the motorcycle."
"When I noticed Enea was near, I exerted effort to stay ahead, but I slipped up. Regardless, I believe the outcome would have been identical."
Martin successfully overcame his previous struggles at Sachsenring, surpassing Francesco Bagnaia in both events at Silverstone.
When questioned on recovering from his error in Germany, Martin swiftly highlighted that championships are achieved through a year's worth of performances.
Martin mentioned, "It seems to me that Sachsenring might not have been so terrible, or perhaps today was the most excellent day here."
"It's crucial to maintain equilibrium throughout the seasons, and I believe we're excelling in that effort."
My summer vacation wasn't the greatest as I was quite dissatisfied. However, achieving such a remarkable outcome is incredible, and securing second place was the ultimate achievement.
I aimed for a smart approach in the race, handling everything carefully. The speed was high, and I kept pushing for victory until the final moments, but Enea was quickly gaining on me.
I attempted to keep up with him, but surpassing him proved to be an insurmountable challenge. Today, he was simply in a league of his own. Let's focus on enhancing our abilities in areas where we require a boost in confidence.
Martin, who previously mentioned that his top possible outcome at Silverstone was a runner-up position, is optimistic about securing a win in Austria.
"The Spaniard stated, "My entire focus is on what's within my power. I can't influence whether someone outperforms me. If I give it my all, that's the most I can do."
"Today marked the second attempt, and it's hoped that in Austria, the outcome will be more favorable."
"No matter what occurs, I'll make an effort to find joy, to embrace the sensations, and to relish everything that unfolds on the track."
