Aprilia Reflects on Strong but Unfulfilled Start to 2024 MotoGP Season, Eyes Greater Consistency in Second Half
Aprilia "anticipated greater success" in early 2024 MotoGP season
Paolo Bonora from Aprilia acknowledges the team had the potential for better performance in the initial phase of 2024.
Up to this point in the 2024 MotoGP season, Aprilia has ranked as the second top-performing manufacturer.
Maverick Vinales had an exceptional weekend at COTA, securing pole position and triumphing in both races.
Aleix Espargaro achieved victory by winning the sprint race in Barcelona.
Nevertheless, Ducati has maintained a competitive edge over Aprilia for the majority of the season.
Paolo Bonora, the manager of the Aprilia Racing Team, is satisfied with the team's performance in the first half of the season, although he acknowledges that they had hoped for even better results
In an interview with MotoGP.com, Bonora mentioned, "Our season has kicked off positively. Truthfully, we had hoped for slightly better outcomes in a few of the races."
"We didn't reach a conclusion in the end, but it's important to recognize that this is a challenging championship with a very high standard."
"Maintaining these outcomes until the conclusion would mark a successful season for us. Aleix has consistently performed well."
"Having spent many years with the bike, he now possesses comprehensive knowledge about it. Maverick's performance has shown noticeable improvement."
"We remember the incredible performance at COTA, as well as in Portimao."
"We've observed significant improvement in his performance. At Trackhouse, the progress aligns with what we aimed for at the beginning of the season, and we are optimistic about further advancements in the latter half of the season."
Although they didn't start the season as successfully as they had hoped, Bonora remains optimistic that things will improve as the season progresses.
Bonora mentioned that the objective for the latter part of the season is to regularly finish within the top five and maintain more consistency throughout the Grand Prix events.
"Throughout weekends, other competitors have excelled more than us in enhancing their lap times. Often, we found ourselves among the top rankings on Fridays, but we lacked the crucial elements needed to improve our lap times on Saturdays and during the Sunday races."
"We need to enhance our performance during the Grand Prix to boost the riders' confidence and to more effectively analyze the data for better results."
