Aprilia Aims for Improved Performance in Second Half of 2024 MotoGP Season After Mixed Results
Paolo Bonora from Aprilia concedes that the team had anticipated stronger performances in the early stages of the 2024 MotoGP season.
Aprilia has secured the position as the runner-up manufacturer in the 2024 MotoGP season thus far.
Maverick Vinales had an outstanding weekend at COTA, securing the top spot in qualifying and then going on to win both races.
Aleix Espargaro experienced victory by securing a sprint win in Barcelona.
Nonetheless, Ducati has maintained the upper hand against Aprilia for a significant portion of the season.
Paolo Bonora, the Team Manager for Aprilia Racing, is satisfied with the season's initial half, yet acknowledges that expectations were higher.
In a conversation with MotoGP.com, Bonora stated, "Our season has kicked off quite well. To speak frankly, we anticipated performing slightly better in certain races."
The outcomes weren't solidified by the conclusion, yet it's imperative to grasp the complexity and the elevated standard of this championship.
Maintaining these outcomes until the final stretch would mark a successful season for us. Aleix has showcased steady performance throughout.
"Over the years, he has become an expert on the bicycle. Maverick's performance has consistently shown progress."
We're reflecting on the incredible performance at COTA, as well as in Portimao.
"We've observed a significant improvement in his performance. At Trackhouse, we've witnessed the growth we were looking for at the season's outset and aim to keep progressing as the season enters its second half."
Despite falling short of their initial aspirations at the season's start, Bonora remains optimistic about turning things around as the season progresses.
Bonora expressed, "Our aim for the latter part of the season is to maintain a steady presence within the top five. Also, to achieve greater consistency throughout the Grand Prix events."
"Rival teams have outperformed us in enhancing their lap speeds over the weekend, and while we often found ourselves among the leaders on Friday, we struggled to boost our lap times on Saturdays and throughout the race on Sunday."
"It's essential that we enhance our performance throughout the Grand Prix to boost the morale of our riders and to more effectively examine the data for performance upgrades."
