Alpine Stands Firm: CEO Luca de Meo Dismisses Rumors of F1 Team Sale Amid Struggles
Alpine dismisses rumors of F1 team sale: Firmly denies any plans to let go
Alpine debunks speculations about offloading their F1 squad.
Renault's chief executive, Luca de Meo, has rejected the idea that the French carmaker might offload its Formula 1 team, despite widespread speculation.
Alpine has faced difficulties in delivering strong performances on the track in 2024, managing to earn only two points across the first eight races.
This positions them at ninth place in the constructors' standings, with only Sauber behind them.
Despite operating as a factory team, Alpine has not managed to capitalize on their encouraging 2022 season, during which they secured a fourth-place finish, surpassing McLaren.
Numerous '100 race strategies' or 'Five-year strategies' have failed to yield successful results for the team based in Enstone.
It's not surprising that there's been a lot of rumors about Renault possibly selling its team, especially considering Andretti's interest in joining the sport.
Nonetheless, de Meo has dismissed the idea of surrendering.
"Let me be perfectly clear about this. Giving up is not an option for us," de Meo emphasized to Autocar. "That's not how I operate."
"We have no intention of parting with any portion of this item. Financial gain is not our objective. There have been numerous proposals coming our way, followed by discussions in the media regarding the same."
"We're not keen on the idea. It's senseless, and I refuse to participate."
De Meo maintains his optimism that Alpine will make a comeback, emphasizing that Renault fully supports the team.
"He emphasized that Alpine should be considered one of the strongest teams in F1, given its support from the Renault Group."
"Currently, I believe we haven't earned the status of a leading team, yet our participation in F1 isn't for sightseeing purposes, so it's imperative that we put in significant effort."
"Indeed, we've had our missteps. It's part of the process. However, I firmly believe that positioning F1 at the heart of Alpine, and choosing a blue color for the car to showcase a unique car culture, is the correct decision."
"This brand is genuinely authentic as it has consistently faced competition. However, it has the potential to excel further, and I wouldn't want to pass up the chance."
