Alex Rins and Yamaha’s V4 Engine: A 2025 Mid-Season Debut in Doubt Amid Current Challenges
Alex Rins on Yamaha's V4: 'Possibly by mid-2025 MotoGP season'
"Should things progress as planned, we might see it by the middle of next year's season."
Alex Rins has dismissed rumors suggesting that Yamaha's new V4 engine could be available by the beginning of the 2025 MotoGP season.
Since the start of the four-stroke era in 2002, Yamaha has been competing with an Inline4 cylinder engine. However, the company has recently announced that it is working on a parallel V4 engine project in an effort to speed up its recovery.
Every competitor of Yamaha in MotoGP utilizes V4 engines. Nevertheless, the Japanese manufacturer has stated that they will only switch to a V4 engine if it proves to be superior to their current Inline engine.
"Rins stated that they definitely won't have the V4 available for the final races of 2024, following a disheartening 16th place finish at Motegi on Sunday."
"If all goes according to plan, we might be able to have it ready by the middle of next season."
"However, that's a separate endeavor, and we must discover something beforehand."
The primary worry for the Spanish rider is the ongoing issue of insufficient rear grip with the present bike. This challenge was faced by all M1 riders, including Rins, his teammate Fabio Quartararo, and wild-card entry Remy Gardner, during the race at Motegi.
"Rins mentioned that all three riders are facing identical issues: a lack of traction and the rear wheel lifting during braking."
"Perhaps Fabio was able to connect more with the rear of the bike when braking in this area. It's possible his setup was superior to ours. After all, he's been riding the same bike for many years."
"I’m not looking to make excuses. He simply outpaced both Remy and me. We have to come up with a solution."
Fabio Quartararo experienced a fuel shortage during the last turns of Sunday's race, resulting in him losing eleventh position to Johann Zarco from LCR Honda.
The French rider crossed the finish line more than 30 seconds behind Francesco Bagnaia, who claimed victory for Ducati. Rins completed the race trailing by 40.839 seconds, while Gardner finished 59.547 seconds behind after the 24 laps.
