Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Crash Allegations Following Aragon MotoGP Incident with Francesco Bagnaia
Alex Marquez replies: "I would never intentionally collide with another racer"
Alex Marquez dismisses any claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia: 'It goes against my principles and the values of this sport'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after seeing various comments following Sunday's Aragon MotoGP incident involving Francesco Bagnaia.
The duo were caught in a severe crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were necessary because it was determined that neither rider was chiefly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with remarks from Bagnaia indicating that the Gresini rider maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
"When I went into the next corner, I could hear his engine revving up. He was accelerating. It was clear he was aiming for this contact," Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com.
"I wanted to examine the data… He kept the throttle at 60 percent open and 40 percent closed right up until the crash. This behavior seems very unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several comments, I wish to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of doing so. It's against my principles and the spirit of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now I need to take a break and let my body heal so I can be in top form for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape major injuries and are set to return to the track at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, who is Alex's brother and teammate, clinched victory in the Aragon race. Jorge Martin finished in second place, extending his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
