Alex Marquez Challenges Inconsistency in MotoGP Steward Decisions After Japanese GP Penalty
Alex Marquez: Expresses Dissent with Officials, Claims Inconsistency in Rule Application
Marquez points out, “It's evident that not everyone is subject to the rules equally.”
Alex Marquez has strongly criticized the officials' verdict to penalize him for his clash with Joan Mir during the Japanese MotoGP event.
The rider from Gresini Ducati has been penalized with a long lap to be completed during the next Australian MotoGP, as a consequence of a collision with Mir in Motegi.
Marquez collided with Mir from behind on the opening lap, following a tumultuous beginning that caused him to fall significantly in the rankings.
Their bicycles got intertwined, causing both of their races to finish prematurely, which greatly angered Mir.
"Marquez acknowledged that a misjudgment at turn 11 caused him to veer off course, and in his attempt to regain his spot, he collided with Mir, resulting in the crash."
"Our bicycles became entwined, and I expressed my apologies to him for the incident.
"We must now focus on getting ahead of Australia in our recovery efforts."
We're facing a prolonged penalty lap, despite my objections. Just a week earlier, at the same third turn, I was struck in a similar manner by another competitor, yet there were no consequences then.
"This indicates that regulations are not uniformly enforced across all individuals, but that's the reality of the situation. We'll take advantage of this learning opportunity."
Last week in Mandalika, Marquez's race was cut short due to a collision involving four riders, initiated by Jack Miller.
Miller acknowledged his error that led to the elimination of Marquez, Luca Marini, and Aleix Espargaro from the competition.
However, the stewards decided not to penalize Miller, considering it an incident typical of racing.
Seven days on, their tolerance for Marquez has significantly diminished.
