AI Pioneer Li Feifei Secures $230M Funding for World Labs: Unveiling Ambitious 3D Space Venture with High-Profile Investors
AI trailblazer Li Feifei has secured $230 million in funding for her new start-up, World Labs. The 3D spaces venture has attracted investments from venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher, and Google's Eric Schmidt.
The company's goal is to create software that utilizes pictures and various data to make judgements about the three-dimensional world, a process they refer to as "large world models". This financial support signifies the ongoing interest of investors in technology that expands the limits of AI, also demonstrating the allure of the industry's most prominent figures.
The recent investment cycle was spearheaded by Andreessen Horowitz, NEA, and Radical Ventures, a Canadian-based venture capital company where Li also serves as a scientific associate. World Labs has chosen not to reveal its worth.
Several prominent individuals in the AI industry have invested as well, such as Jeff Dean, the head scientist at Google DeepMind, and Geoffrey Hinton, a previous AI researcher at Google renowned for his contributions to machine learning. Hinton is a financier in Radical Ventures. Furthermore, the company has received funding from Nvidia's venture division.
The group of private investors also encompasses venture capitalist and actor Ashton Kutcher, the CEO of Salesforce Marc Benioff, LinkedIn's co-founder Reid Hoffman, and Eric Schmidt, the ex-CEO of Google.
