George Russell leads the first practice session following a collision between Alex Albon and Ollie Bearman.

In the shortened first practice session at the F1 Mexico City Grand Prix, George Russell emerged as the fastest driver after a significant collision between Alex Albon and Ollie Bearman.

A pivotal incident during the FP1 session took place when Albon experienced a sudden loss of control while navigating the esses. This caused his Williams to spin and collide with Bearman’s Ferrari, before crashing forcefully into the barriers at Turn 10.

Both drivers emerged from the crash without injuries, and following an extended interruption, Mercedes’ Russell set the fastest lap on soft tires, surpassing Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz by 0.317 seconds.

Yuki Tsunoda secured third place in his RB, trailing Russell's fastest time in FP1 by 0.701 seconds. He managed to position himself ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who was 0.8 seconds slower.

Nico Hulkenberg secured fifth place for Haas, followed by Oscar Piastri from McLaren, Esteban Ocon representing Alpine, and Valtteri Bottas from Sauber. Liam Lawson and local favorite Sergio Perez completed the top ten for Red Bull and RB.

Franco Colapinto, who filled in for Williams, secured the 11th spot. Meanwhile, Kimi Antonelli, the quickest among the five newcomers participating in the initial practice session, took Lewis Hamilton’s place in the Mercedes.

Last month at Monza, Antonelli made his debut in a Mercedes during the first practice session and ended up crashing. This incident led to an early red flag after he collided with some loose debris on the main straight.

Pato O’Ward secured the 13th spot while driving the McLaren, which is usually piloted by championship contender Lando Norris. Felipe Drugovich, representing Aston Martin, finished in 18th place. Robert Shwartzman, driving for Sauber, took 19th position. Meanwhile, Bearman, who was driving for Ferrari, ended up with the slowest time following a crash that concluded his session.

Following the session, Red Bull announced that they are looking into a potential problem with the power unit in Verstappen's car. It appears that the unit in question is an older model from his available collection.

The strategic minds behind the scenes are the unsung heroes, orchestrating each move that enables drivers to perform at their peak.

The drivers themselves, an elite group of the world's top racers, exhibit extraordinary skill and courage, navigating tight corners and long straights at speeds that exceed 300 km/h. Their ability to manage the complex interplay of tire wear, fuel load, and aerodynamics, all while inches away from their competitors, is nothing short of remarkable. The intense focus and physical endurance required to compete at this level make Formula 1 drivers some of the most revered athletes in the world.

The Championships, both for drivers and constructors, represent the zenith of achievement in Formula 1 racing. Every point earned is a step closer to the ultimate accolade in this high-speed chase for glory. For fans, the thrill of the race is matched only by their passion for their favorite teams and drivers, creating an atmosphere of excitement and loyalty that is unique to the sport.

In summary, Formula 1 Grand Prix racing is a symphony of speed, skill, and strategy, orchestrated on the world’s most iconic circuits. It's where technology meets tenacity, and where every millisecond counts. As teams, drivers, and fans gear up for each race, one thing is certain: the need for speed is what drives the heart of Formula 1.

In the high-octane world of motorsport, Formula 1 reigns supreme, encapsulating the essence of speed, precision, and technological mastery. As the top echelon of Grand Prix racing, it is a spectacle where the best teams and drivers come together to etch their names into the annals of history, pushing the limits on world-renowned circuits. Unserved Penalties: Robert Shwartzman’s F1 Grid Penalty Highlights the Quirks of Racing Regulations

Published

By

Robert Shwartzman received a grid penalty in Formula 1 that he may not have the opportunity to fulfill.

Robert Shwartzman has received a penalty that will push him five spots down on the starting grid, despite the fact that he is not scheduled to compete in this weekend's F1 Mexico City Grand Prix.

Robert Shwartzman participated in the first practice session for Sauber at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, stepping in for Zhou Guanyu.

According to Formula 1 rules, each driver is required to allow a rookie driver to take their place in one free practice session.

During the initial practice session, Shwartzman was among five newcomers participating.

A driver supported by Ferrari received a penalty for passing Yuki Tsunoda while double-waved yellow flags were displayed.

The event took place after Alex Albon collided with Oliver Bearman.

Displaying two yellow flags, Shwartzman overtook Tsunoda during the race.

The officials observed that after the event at turn nine, Shwartzman drove past a single yellow flag and a double yellow flag. During this time, he overtook Tsunoda in the designated caution area while maintaining high speed.

"The penalty imposed is the standard one for overtaking under a double yellow flag. Although the stewards acknowledge that the driver is not set to begin the race, they have enforced the usual penalty."

The penalty given to Shwartzman is atypical since it is probable that he will never actually have to fulfill it.

The 25-year-old driver is currently competing in the World Endurance Championship and did not secure a spot in Formula 1 despite having impressive seasons in FIA Formula 2.

There has been a similar situation in the past when Jenson Button received a grid penalty due to an incident that occurred in Monaco while he was substituting for Fernando Alonso.

Button never fulfilled that penalty because it was his last race in Formula 1, a single appearance.

Alex Rins Seeks Chassis Change to Match Quartararo’s Performance Amid Braking Struggles at Thai MotoGP

Published

Alex Rins: ‘I'm determined to return to using the same chassis as Fabio’

"I rode alongside Fabio… He performed quite well, and the difference is evident. I can't bring the bike to a stop."

Alex Rins plans to switch back to using the same Yamaha chassis as his teammate, Fabio Quartararo, after encountering difficulties in the heavy braking zones during Friday's practice session for the Thai MotoGP.

In the afternoon session, Quartararo initially led the pack and remained among the top three as the time attack phase commenced. However, he faced ongoing challenges in getting the best performance out of new tires on the M1, which resulted in him dropping to 12th place, trailing by 0.591 seconds.

Rins struggled to climb the ranks and ultimately finished in 18th position, trailing Quartararo by just under half a second.

"It wasn't the simplest of days," Rins remarked. "The morning went fairly well. I was feeling alright, especially given that I hadn't ridden here since last year."

"The afternoon session proved to be quite challenging. We opted for the soft front tire, which caused significant difficulties due to the elevated track temperatures."

"We switched to the hard front tire that we used in the first practice session, and I immediately felt more at ease and confident. However, there was still a significant gap. To clarify, changing to the hard front tire didn't result in a 0.5-0.6 second improvement."

Rins trailed Quartararo during a timed assault, highlighting problems with his braking.

"The timed laps were really challenging for me. I rode alongside Fabio for my second set of tires. He was performing quite well, and the difference was obvious," Rins explained. "I can't bring the bike to a stop. I'm overshooting in every braking zone, particularly in the first and third corners."

He expressed that he feels challenged with the bike's front end. "Take Corner 3, for instance; I apply the brakes at the same spot as Fabio," he noted. "Fabio serves as my sole benchmark since we both ride the Yamaha."

"Compared to him, when we apply the brakes at the same spot, I experience significant front-end motion, such as locking and bouncing. This has been happening in numerous races."

When questioned about whether there is any technical distinction between the M1 models that could explain the variations in braking performance, Rins disclosed that he had reverted to using the 'standard' chassis.

"We're using a different chassis. At Phillip Island, we chose to return to the standard version since it's the one I've competed with the most," Rins explained.

Fabio's modification and the chassis I used for two previous races felt decent to me. However, since I have more familiarity with the other chassis, we chose to revert to it.

Certainly, for Saturday, I plan to switch back to the chassis that Fabio is using, the one we received in Misano, so our bikes will be more alike.

"I want to avoid mirroring Fabio's setup since our riding techniques differ. However, the bikes will at least have similar specifications."

Rins also verified that he had tested the newest iteration of Yamaha’s Ducati-inspired ride-height system. This system, which operates automatically, is engaged by pressing a button while entering a corner and then automatically lowers itself upon exiting.

In the first practice session, I tested it extensively. It performed well, but I prefer the manual option as it feels more comfortable to me, he remarked.

To put it differently, Rins continues to favor having complete authority over the timing of lowering the rear when exiting.

Yuki Tsunoda to Test Red Bull’s F1 Car in Abu Dhabi: A Milestone Opportunity Backed by Honda

Published

on

By

Christian Horner has announced that Yuki Tsunoda will participate in a Red Bull Formula 1 test at the end of the year. Tsunoda is set to get behind the wheel of Red Bull's latest F1 car during the post-season testing session in Abu Dhabi.

Yuki Tsunoda is set to test drive Red Bull's RB20 Formula 1 car during the post-season session in Abu Dhabi.

The 24-year-old driver from Japan, representing Red Bull’s affiliated team RB, is set to test Red Bull's latest car at the post-season testing event, which will take place after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this December.

Tsunoda had only driven a Red Bull car once before, which was at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where he took the RB18 for a spin.

Honda has been advocating for Tsunoda to have an opportunity to demonstrate his abilities in a Red Bull car, and team leader Christian Horner has announced that a test is scheduled.

During Friday's FIA press conference at the Mexico City Grand Prix, Horner informed the media, including Crash.net, that Yuki is part of the junior team, a topic that has been discussed with Honda.

After the season ends, he is set to evaluate the car during the tire testing. This arrangement has been settled for a while now.

"It will be beneficial to let him have another session and to collaborate with the Red Bull Racing engineers to observe his performance in one of their cars."

Although Yuki Tsunoda has delivered better performances than Daniel Ricciardo, who is no longer with the team, he has apparently never been viewed as a viable candidate to partner with Max Verstappen.

Liam Lawson, who stepped in for Ricciardo, is considered a stronger contender to replace Sergio Perez should the Mexican driver keep underperforming.

Horner reiterated that Perez holds a legitimate contract with Red Bull for the year 2025.

"Checo is under contract for the upcoming year, which means he is our driver for the 2025 season," he stated.

It’s clear that there’s an open spot at VCARB; however, all the drivers there are currently on loan from Red Bull Racing.

"We have the advantage of time to discuss various possibilities with Laurent Mekies, the team principal of RB, and Peter Bayer, the CEO of RB."

High-Stakes Showdown: Live Updates from 2024 Thai MotoGP Qualifying as Martin, Bagnaia, and Marquez Battle for Pole

Published

on

By

Live Coverage of the 2024 Thai MotoGP Qualifying!

Stay tuned for real-time updates from the qualifying rounds taking place on Saturday at the 2024 Thai MotoGP event. As the season nears its conclusion with only three races remaining, Jorge Martin enters Saturday with a 20-point advantage over the current titleholder, Francesco Bagnaia.

Martin is currently riding a wave of success, having outperformed Bagnaia in both races at Phillip Island. Last year, he dominated in Buriram by securing the Pole Position and winning both the Sprint and Grand Prix races.

However, both championship hopefuls must remain vigilant as they face competition from Marc Marquez, who secured a win at Phillip Island last weekend and has previously claimed two victories at Buriram while riding for Honda.

Last year, KTM contended for the win with Brad Binder, while Marco Bezzecchi and Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo also finished among the top five.

Because of the high temperatures and the pressure on the tires, Buriram is one of the locations where Michelin opts for rear tires with a more rigid structure.

During Friday's practice session, Marc Marquez recorded the quickest time, with Martin, Bastianini, and Bagnaia trailing behind him

Following a rain-free Friday, thunderstorms could potentially occur on both Saturday and Sunday.

The qualification session is scheduled for Saturday morning at 10:50 AM local time, which corresponds to 4:50 AM in the UK. The 13-lap Sprint race will then commence at 3:00 PM local time, or 9:00 AM for

Good morning from Buriram! We're just 20 minutes away from the final practice session for the Thai MotoGP. Right after that, we'll have Qualifying 1 and Qualifying 2.

Engine Woes Cut Max Verstappen’s Mexico FP2 Short: A Day to Forget for the Championship Leader

Published

on

By

Max Verstappen's second practice session in Mexico was abruptly halted because of an unusual sound coming from his engine, leading to an early conclusion of his day.

During the second practice session of the Mexico City Grand Prix, Max Verstappen had to halt his run prematurely because of a problem with his Formula 1 power unit.

In the second practice session, Verstappen only managed to do four laps and did not record a timed lap.

The man from the Netherlands mentioned right away that he noticed an “odd sound” coming from his engine.

He communicated via the team radio, saying, "There is a strange sound coming from the engine."

During that moment, the Red Bull engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, instructed him to keep going.

Not long after, Verstappen communicated over the radio once more, expressing, "This sound is quite unsettling. It doesn’t seem normal."

Verstappen received instructions to enter the pit lane while Red Bull looked into the problem.

Following the incident involving George Russell that led to a red flag, Verstappen initially went back onto the circuit but soon made his way back to the pit lane.

Due to the unresolved issue, Verstappen was unable to carry out any significant laps during the second practice session.

On their official X account, Red Bull announced: "Car 1 will not participate in FP2 as we continue to look into a power unit problem."

Verstappen characterized his day as "essentially worthless".

Verstappen mentioned that the issue originated from the engine area, although he wasn't sure of the exact problem. He expressed that the day was largely unproductive for him, as he only completed four or five laps, providing little information to analyze at this time.

"I didn't have a successful session, managing only four or five laps altogether, even including some extended runs. It was definitely a day best left behind."

Max Verstappen leads the F1 drivers' championship by a margin of 57 points over Lando Norris, with five races remaining in the season.

After a contentious encounter with Norris during the United States Grand Prix, his advantage in the championship standings increased.

Norris received a five-second time penalty for passing Verstappen while off the track at Turn 12 during the race at COTA.

The penalty was pivotal in putting Norris behind Verstappen, which enabled Verstappen to extend his lead in the championship.
