Liam Lawson Focuses on Present as Red Bull 2025 F1 Seat Speculation Swirls
Liam Lawson claims that securing a spot with the Red Bull senior team for the 2025 F1 season is not something he is currently considering.
Liam Lawson mentioned that he isn't currently considering the chance of securing a Red Bull F1 seat for the 2025 season, as he is primarily focused on obtaining a permanent racing position.
A 22-year-old from New Zealand will make an appearance at the end of the season for Red Bull's secondary team, stepping in for Daniel Ricciardo, who was dropped for the last six races of the year.
Red Bull has not announced who will join Yuki Tsunoda at RB for the upcoming season, but Lawson is currently the top contender for the full-time position. Additionally, he has the opportunity to make his case as a possible successor to Sergio Perez in the main team.
However, Lawson claims that the idea of driving for Red Bull is not on his mind at the moment.
During his appearance on the F1 Nation podcast, Lawson expressed that while he isn't constantly thinking about it, he is certainly conscious of the fact that being part of Red Bull Racing's junior team could lead to a future with Red Bull, provided he performs well.
"My aim is to join Red Bull Racing eventually, and I understand that they are also planning for the future. They are preparing for the time when Max or Checo may leave, ensuring they have drivers on standby for that transition."
"I understand that my future depends on performing well. I'm not overly concerned about when this will happen because I know it hinges entirely on my success in my present role."
In a conversation on the same podcast earlier this month, Christian Horner, the head of the Red Bull team, hinted that Lawson could have the chance to position himself as a potential teammate for Max Verstappen by 2025.
"This isn't just about VCARB; it also includes Red Bull Racing," Horner explained. "We have an agreement with Sergio for the upcoming year, but it's essential to always consider future possibilities."
Lawson disclosed what Red Bull anticipates from him in the concluding races of 2024.
"The team essentially wants me to deliver results that are on par with Yuki's performance. Their aim is for me to match his level and contribute effectively. They are looking for points from my efforts," he clarified.
"It’s clear that the team is aiming to secure sixth place in the Constructors' Championship, which holds significant value for VCARB. Therefore, earning points is the main objective."
"If we're putting points on the board, it means we're performing well. That's essentially the goal we've been given. However, our performance is constantly under review."
