Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia: Davide Brivio Confirms Departure at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from Trackhouse Aprilia at the conclusion of 2024. This confirmation was made during the Aragon MotoGP.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the team principal of Trackhouse Aprilia, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team when the 2024 season concludes.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was initially the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand, and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com’s pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who started with Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision to make. He mentioned that the American-owned team is seeking “a different direction” as part of their strategy.
Brivio mentioned that Zeelenberg's departure was a topic of discussion and a mutual decision. He also praised Wilco Zeelenberg for his significant contributions.
“To be honest, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over the years. Most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves a lot of praise for what he has created.”
"As Trackhouse, we considered that for the future, we might need to explore a new direction. While it's unfortunate in some ways, it's also just part of doing business."
"It's never easy to deal with, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
Zeelenberg's next move remains uncertain. The Dutchman, who once won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the Yamaha MotoGP factory team. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager.
