Yuki Tsunoda: The Overlooked Contender for Red Bull’s F1 Future
Yuki Tsunoda, often not given enough attention, asserts that he merits an opportunity to demonstrate his skills with the main Red Bull Formula 1 team.
Yuki Tsunoda from Red Bull feels he should be given an opportunity to secure a Formula 1 seat with the main Red Bull team in the future.
Even though Tsunoda has delivered strong and steady performances for RB, it appears that the main Red Bull team has repeatedly passed him over.
Daniel Ricciardo, who has since been dismissed, was originally recruited by Red Bull as a contingency for Sergio Perez, who was not performing well. Meanwhile, his successor, Liam Lawson, seems to have moved ahead of Tsunoda in the running for a possible future position at Red Bull.
When questioned about whether he believes he should already be competing for Red Bull, Tsunoda, who has a contract to race for the team again in 2025, reportedly told F1.com: “I’m not sure about the past years, but this year, definitely.”
The Japanese driver, who is 24 years old, has added 22 points to RB's total of 34 points this season. The team from Faenza is striving to maintain their sixth position in the constructors’ championship.
Tsunoda asserts that ongoing rumors about a potential Red Bull position have absolutely no effect on how he is approaching the final six races.
"I've grown accustomed to those aspects," he remarked. "They've been circulating throughout the year, so discussing them seems pointless, to be frank. Personally, my priority is to concentrate on doing what I need to in order to better myself."
In this setting, the emphasis is entirely on performance, and my priority is to concentrate on areas where I can make improvements. Right now, my primary goal is to earn points for the team and ensure a prosperous year.
"I'm really driven to secure sixth place in the constructors' championship. Our team has never reached that milestone before, so accomplishing it would be an impressive outcome."
When asked if he believes there's an opportunity for him at Red Bull in 2025, Tsunoda said: "I'm not sure. I think there might be, but it will definitely hinge on how well I perform."
"As we observed within our group, everything always hinges on performance, and if I do well, there's a chance the others will notice. It's uncertain, I can't predict it, and those factors are out of my hands."
When asked about gaining a new teammate, Lawson, for the upcoming United States Grand Prix, Tsunoda commented: "I've experienced changes in teammates before, so this situation isn't entirely unfamiliar to me or something that adds any additional pressure. The pressure is always present, so I'll continue with the approach I've been taking."
"I have a passion for driving and find joy in racing. My focus remains sharp as I collaborate with engineers to enhance our car's performance. The teamwork atmosphere is something I appreciate, and I'm truly savoring this experience."
