Xpeng’s AI-Driven P7+ Targets Tesla’s Dominance in China: Launches with Competitive Pricing and Advanced Autonomous Capabilities

Xpeng's P7+, powered by AI, is set to compete with Tesla, targeting China's self-driving car market. The electric vehicle company has initiated the pre-sale of the P7+ at a price of 209,800 yuan (US$29,500), which is 10 per cent less expensive than the standard model of the Tesla Model 3.

Xpeng, a high-end electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer from China, has competitively priced its newest model, banking on its novel self-driving system to attract customers who may otherwise opt for Tesla's technology in the mainland.

The electric vehicle company based in Guangzhou has established the presale cost of the P7+ sedan at 209,800 yuan (approximately US$29,500) as the Paris Motor Show commenced on Monday. Xpeng says that clients can avail a further discount of 3,000 yuan if they consent to reserve the car by paying 99 yuan.

This means the P7+ is 10.8% less expensive than Tesla's Model 3, which has a starting price of 231,900 yuan.

Xpeng announced on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo on Monday that the Xpeng P7+ received over 30,000 orders within two hours following the presale announcement.

Xpeng announced on October 10 that the P7+ is the first car in the world to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI), according to the company. The vehicle comes with Xpeng's own Eagle Eye technology, backed by Nvidia Orin X chips, enhancing its precision in data gathering. The company has thoroughly incorporated AI to boost the P7+'s intelligence in areas such as autonomous driving, energy regulation, and heat management, as stated by the company's founder and CEO, He Xiaopeng.

He stated that AI will form the basis for creating EVs in the future. He noted that AI will be extensively incorporated in smart cars and their goal is to establish a standard AI-driven vehicle for the sector.
