Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia in 2024: Davide Brivio Confirms Strategic Shift
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team after the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who initially joined the Trackhouse team when it first appeared as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will be departing from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand, and its first season operating under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg's exit was a "very tough" decision. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team's effort to explore a "new direction".
Brivio mentioned that Zeelenberg's exit was a topic of conversation. He stated that they made the choice together and gave significant recognition to Wilco Zeelenberg for his contributions.
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over the years. Most of the team will remain the same next year, so he deserves a lot of recognition for his work."
"As Trackhouse, we considered that we might need to explore a new path for the future. While it's unfortunate in some respects, it's also a business decision."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this time. Having previously secured a victory in the 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutchman served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales within the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
