Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at the End of 2024, Confirms Davide Brivio at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was initially known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, is set to depart from the satellite Aprilia project. This move comes after the team's second season with the Noale brand and its first season operating under the Trackhouse name.
During a conversation with Simon Crafar, a pit lane reporter for MotoGP.com, ahead of last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio—who became part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024—shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very tough” decision. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to seek “a new direction”.
Brivio mentioned, "We talked about Zeelenberg's departure and made this decision together. Wilco deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions."
"To be honest, when I got here, I discovered that he had assembled a team over the years, and most of the team will remain the same next year. He deserves a lot of recognition for what he has accomplished."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that moving forward, we needed to take a different path. It's unfortunate in one sense, but it's a business decision in another."
“It’s never easy to deal with, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging.”
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this point. A one-time victor in the 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutchman served as the team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
