Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024 Season, Confirms Davide Brivio at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia at the conclusion of 2024, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP.
Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who initially joined the Trackhouse team when it first started as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team back in 2019, will be departing the satellite Aprilia project. This project is currently in its second season with the Noale brand and its first operating under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became a part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very tough” decision. He mentioned it is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore “a different direction”.
Brivio mentioned that Zeelenberg's exit was a topic they had deliberated on and ultimately decided together. He also acknowledged and praised Wilco Zeelenberg for his contributions.
"Frankly, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over the years. Most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for what he has accomplished."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that exploring a new path was necessary for the future. It's unfortunate in one way, but it's a business decision in another."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this time. The Dutchman, who once won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
