Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024 Season, Confirms Davide Brivio at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia after the conclusion of the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP.
Davide Brivio, the head of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who originally joined the Trackhouse team back when it was known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will be departing the Aprilia satellite project after their second season with the Noale brand, marking their first season under the Trackhouse name.
In a conversation with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before last Sunday’s Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, described Zeelenberg’s exit as a “very tough” decision. He mentioned that this move is part of the American-owned team’s efforts to explore “a new direction”.
"This decision regarding Zeelenberg's departure was mutually discussed," Brivio stated. "We made this choice together, and Wilco deserves significant recognition for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he had meticulously assembled over the years. Most of this team will remain unchanged next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that we needed to explore a new path for the future. It's unfortunate in one sense, but it's a business decision in another."
"It's never easy to deal with, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
Zeelenberg's upcoming plans remain unclear. The Dutchman, who once won a 250cc Grand Prix, previously served as the team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
