Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024, Confirms Team Principal Davide Brivio
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season. This confirmation came during the Aragon MotoGP.
Davide Brivio, the head of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team after the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was first known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will be departing from the satellite Aprilia project after this second season with the Noale brand, marking its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who started with Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision to make. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team's effort to explore “a new direction”.
"We had a conversation about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio mentioned. "We made this choice together. Wilco deserves a lot of praise for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over the years. Moreover, this team will largely remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts."
"At Trackhouse, we believed that looking ahead, we needed to explore a new path. While it's unfortunate in some ways, it's also just a business decision."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain. As a former victor in the 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutchman served as team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. He transitioned to the Petronas SRT team as their team manager in 2019.
